Cyvex Nutrition Partners with SloIron Inc.® to Distribute Plant-Based Ferritin Iron

The legume-derived ingredient delivers gentle, bioavailable iron supplementation for brands and formulators 

DECEMBER 4, 2025 – IRVINE, CA — Cyvex Nutrition, a member of the Bioriginal Group of Companies and trusted provider of high-quality nutraceutical ingredients, today announced its strategic sales partnership with SloIron Inc.^® to distribute SloIron^®, the first plant-based ferritin iron ingredient designed to improve consumer compliance, reduce formulation challenges, and simplify product development. 

Iron deficiency remains one of the most widespread nutritional challenges globally, yet many consumers struggle with traditional iron supplements due to gastrointestinal side effects. These challenges contribute to low compliance and create a gap in the market for iron ingredients that are both effective and well-tolerated. 

SloIron^® addresses this challenge by delivering iron in a plant-based ferritin complex derived entirely from legumes and built around the body’s natural ferritin-iron structure. In legumes, iron is stored inside a protective protein shell called ferritin. This “protein cage” holds iron as a stable bionanomineral known as ferrihydrite and acts as a natural enteric coating, allowing SloIron^® to pass through the stomach intact. Once in the gut, the ferritin shell is absorbed whole through a dedicated pathway known as receptor-mediated endocytosis. Because the iron remains enclosed throughout digestion, it avoids contact with the gut lining, which minimizes irritation and supports a gentle, digestion-friendly experience. This unique structure also provides slow, regulated iron release, helping protect against potential iron overload while delivering a steady supply of bioavailable iron. 

The ingredient offers formulators and brands a consumer-friendly alternative to harsh iron salts and chelates. Its neutral taste and odor, compatibility with vitamins, minerals, and other active ingredients, and strong formulation flexibility make it appropriate for a wide range of applications. SloIron^® is supported by a growing body of research, including one human clinical trial, four preclinical animal safety studies, and three cellular safety studies, all of which confirm its bioavailability, safety, and excellent tolerability.
